It all sounds nice but the reality, at least here in CA, is that AI exists because labor costs are bankrupting small farmers and when young kids see Dad stressing about how to pay to fix the tractor, they are going to see that online influencer career as pretty enticing.

Also, if money spent on food dropped while healthcare costs rose, that means people won't pay now (for whole food) but they will pay later (for doctor bills). Or maybe they are just kicking the can down the road. It is their choice that they buy packaged junk rather than a fresh peach. Educating them on how these choices are impacting farming is a more realistic way forward than suggesting more folks become farmers.

Start by realizing 2 things: (1) a fresh peach SHOULD NOT be the same price that it was 40 years ago. To demand that is an implicit vote to put small farmers out of business and (2) stop voting to increase the minimum wage. It will put more farm workers on the public dole because farmers simply cannot afford the labor costs when they're getting a few cents per peach. Back in the 1970s, my dad pulled out our entire peach orchard because we were getting $48 A TON. And guess what, folks? It has only gotten worse. Add in California's incessant need to over-regulate and while some industries can pick up their ball and move to Texas, farmers with trees in the ground are, to put it bluntly, screwed.
