If government only built and maintained public infrastructure -- for transportation, communication and sanitation (and public buildings) -- we could see where our money is going. And we could let the local communities figure out how to spend their infrastructure money. Funds spent on cultural and social welfare can't be tracked so easily. I think if government did a better job at providing public infrastructure, we could go back to allowing the non-profit sector provide for our social and cultural well being.
