Really important article. Keep pushing this information out there. Many parents think they’re reducing the chances of their kids committing suicide by getting them on SSRIs and have no idea about the actual (increased) risk of suicide from taking them.

While at age 66 I am far from being a teen girl, I want to add that last year my PCP wrote me a prescription for a common arthritis medication that also contains a SSRI. I did not ask for a prescription as I use motion, exercise, and weight control instead of meds. When the med arrived in my mail, I read the insert and saw the SSRI listing. At my follow up visit, I asked why he prescribed an arthritis med with a SSRI and he said to control my anxiety. I asked him to look in my chart and tell me when I had ever complained of anxiety...he admitted I had not. He then said, he commonly prescribed SSRIs to my demographic. I was shocked at the lack of medical reasoning. I changed doctors and never went back.
